The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), located at Dholpur House in New Delhi, is set to conduct the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2024 on 26th May 2024. Eligibility for UPSC CSE Recruitment Examination 2024

Indian Civil Services 2024 Vacancies: The UPSC has announced 1056 vacancies (including 40 for PH candidates) across various Administrative Services for the Indian Civil Services 2024.

Age Criteria: Candidates applying should be between 21 to 32 years old as of 01/08/2024. Certain age relaxations are applicable for SC/ST/OBC and other specified categories, as mentioned in the Notice.

Examination Pattern for Civil Service Exam 2024

The Civil Services competitive examination of 2024 involves two consecutive stages:

  1. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type):
    • This stage is conducted on 26th May 2024.
    • It aims to select candidates for the Main Examination.
  2. Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview):
    • This stage is scheduled for November 2024.
    • It is the final phase for the selection of candidates for various Services and posts.

Preliminary Examination for UPSC CSE Recruitment 2024

The Preliminary Examination scheduled for May 26, 2024, consists of two papers with multiple-choice questions, totaling a maximum of 400 marks. This serves as a screening test, with a minimum qualifying mark set at 33%. The question papers will be available in both Hindi and English. It’s important to note that there is a penalty (negative marking) for incorrect answers in the Objective Type Question Papers.

Main Examination for UPSC Exam 2024

The Main Examination of 2024 comprises a written examination and an interview test. The written part includes 9 papers of conventional essay type, among which two are qualifying in nature. Marks obtained in all compulsory papers (Paper-I to Paper-VII) and the Interview for Personality Test contribute to the ranking.

Candidates meeting the minimum qualifying marks in the Main Examination’s written part, as set by the Commission, will be invited for a Personality Test interview. Approximately twice the number of candidates as vacancies will be summoned. The interview holds a weightage of 275 marks with no minimum qualifying marks.

The final ranking of candidates is determined by the marks obtained in both the Main Examination (written part and interview). Allocation to various Services is based on candidates’ ranks and their preferences for specific Services and posts expressed during the examination.
